Asashuni (Satkhira) Correspondent : In Budhahata village of Asashuni upazila, helpless Sirajul is living a miserable life with his family in a dilapidated hut. Sirajul Islam, 45, son of the late Sobhan Sardar, owned a small piece of ancestral land near the main road near the Budhahata Kawsharia Dakhil Madrasa. He has been making a living by working as a bicycle mechanic since childhood. His father was also a bicycle mechanic. His other brothers also work as mechanics. Their family was somehow earning a living by working every day. He has 5 daughters including his wife. They lost their livelihood including selling land while marrying 3 daughters. With two young daughters, their family was running on income. Even if he has a piece of land (only 1 century), he does not have the capacity to build a house there. So on the back wall of Rafiqul Islam’s pucca house, they live in two rooms, 20 feet long and 5/6 feet wide, covered with tin and surrounded by tin-wood. The tin is damaged and the wood of the fence is broken. It was impossible to stay indoors because of the storm. Extreme problems can occur even on hot days. As the rainwater falls on the rice, it sinks into the outer water on a very low foundation. The one-story house is in a worse condition than the barn. Her daughters-in-law were forced to return to Kalevadra but could not stay the night. In such a difficult situation, even if they ate half of their daily income, their family was going on. But 6/7 months ago a tumor appeared on his shoulder. Many local and Satkhira doctors have been shown for treatment. Two tumors have already matured, but two more have grown. Now he can’t work as a mechanic properly. Family members are worried about whether the tumor will turn into an incurable disease. Now they can’t afford to pay for food. Being forced to go door to door to get help. Sirajul is left helpless with his two young daughters and wife.

Public representatives, government officials, wealthy and well-wishers, come forward to arrange for his treatment. Stay by the side of Sirajul’s family who is entitled to a house to live in a little comfort. He and his family have sought the intervention of the appropriate authorities on whether the landless can be brought under the humanitarian scheme of the Hon’ble Prime Minister.
